Good morning:
A walk through any clothing store will easily disprove the title of this devotion as far as clothing is concerned. From extra small to XXL there are a wide variety of clothing sizes. There may be a few adjustable hats or elastic gloves out there that truly do fit all, but for the most part, there is no one size fits all for clothing. Yet when the clothing of the new man is under consideration, the statement “one size fits all” is as true as they come.Paul says in Colossians 3:12-14 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”
When Christians put off the old Adam and put on the new man, they ditch the self centered, envious, and ruinous attitudes of the Devil and replace them with the selfless, content, and wholesome attitudes of Christ. The kindness, humility, and longsuffering which Paul encourages fit every Christian. What’s more, the love that we have because He first loved us runs through all the other pieces of clothing that the new man wears. It is the stitching that tailor fits every other Christian virtue specifically to you. When you live and act in love, every other Christian virtue fits you just right as well.
Before you get into your nice new clothes though, you need to be clean. No one gets into a tuxedo or ball gown while covered in grime and muck. You too, need to have your sinful old attitudes, the clothing of the old Adam, washed away. Jesus did this for you in the washing of your Baptism and the repeats the process when those attitudes come back in the forgiving flood of His own body and blood in Communion.
